Original jewellery design can be inspired by different influences, eras, and aesthetics. Or, like the pieces in this collection, it can be inspired by the shapes, colours, textures, strengths, limitations, and potential of the materials and techniques at the artist's disposal.

"I think with my hands," says designer Kyra Matsui. "I get itchy if I don't have lots to work with. I think of my drawers and bins of materials as fertile soil."
