  1. Byzantine style garnet and steel necklace

Sensory Seekers: The width, texture, and movement of these pieces make Iron Lace's Byzantine designs an excellent source of sensory jewellery. The movement of the chain weave and hanging stones creates a pleasant quiet tinkling sound for calming sensory feedback throughout the day.

  2. Etruscan drape necklace

Handmade from silver plated chainmail and silver filigree.

  3. Byzantine lapis choker

    Steel and lapis chainmail choker

  4. Viking-inspired bronze and lapis necklace

Viking seafarers traded and plundered coasts across Europe and beyond and displayed their wealth and success with, among other things, jewellery of precious metals and gemstones. Like the Vikings themselves, the simple beaded necklaces of the Iron Lace Design Viking collection are colourful, adaptable, and strong.

  5. Gold plate and amethyst Byzantine inspired choker

Inspired by the Byzantine love of richly coloured gemstones and gold and silver openwork designs, these collars and chokers feature semi-precious stones dangling from wide, lace-like lattices woven of half-round links of steel, silver-, or gold-plate.

  6. Baroque rococo in dark red and silver

Inspired by the exuberance of Baroque fashion and the curves of 18th century French rococo design, these necklaces surround their gleaming inset Swarovski crystals with densely textured chainmail settings. The full collar style necklaces of these original Kyra Matsui designs look stunning from every angle and hold their shape beautifully thanks to the omnidirectional Japanese mail weave.

Historical Inspiration,

Original Execution

"I like history and I’ve always been interested in the handicrafts of different eras, and the costume and the technology that underlay the costume, from making thread to weaving to embellishing.

"Because clothing and decoration is so important, you can see the technology, the level of wealth in a community, the influence of political movements, the effects of war and famine and everything like that in clothing. By the time I was in late highschool, I realized that if you could look at the fashion of an era, you could pin down what was happening in that period.

"So it’s always been the hook that I hang knowing history on."
